Sir,

RECEN

12 JUN 1934

C. O. RECY

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONG KONG,

7th May, 1934.

With reference to my despatch No.267 of the

4th May, 1933, on the subject of the gift to this

Government by the Chinese Public Dispensaries Committee

of the Tsan Yuk Hospital I have the honour to request your

covering approval of certain alterations in the salaries of

the Hospital Staff which have been considered desirable in

order to bring these into line with the rates of payment in

other Government Hospitals.

2.

Provision for these salaries will be found

on page 65 of the Estimates for 1934 based upon the salaries

previously paid to these officers by the Dispensaries'

Committee. In addition the Committee provided the Staff

with food estimated to cost $12 a month in the case of

Nurses, and $9 a month in the case of Amahs. A sum of

$2,880 was included under Head 22 Subhead 19 of the 1934

Estimates to cover this expenditure.

3.

The system whereby free messing was provided

has now been discontinued and the salaries of the Staff have

been adjusted in compensation. The scale proposed for

nurses $540 x 60 720 is considered adequate, and it is

proposed rather than raise the scale to grant a personal

allowance to the three senior midwives in order that they

may not lose by transfer to Government service. It has been

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.,
